Visiting Wharton, Tepper, Stern, etc.

What do usual people wear to these colleges? I have a specific tour to visit mostly the business schools so should I dress in a suit as opposed to other people that visit the main college? Should I be more business-like or is visiting the business sect of one of these top B Schools the same as visiting say Upenn, CMU, or NYU as a whole?

u def dont need to wear a suit for a college tour..you will be hot and uncomfortable the whole day..your not really there to impress anyone..ur there to look at the school. Wear a polo or something.

People wont dress more business-like if theyre applying to the business school. The tour is pretty much the same as visiting the school as a whole.

Dont really worry about it too much..wear what you feel is appropriate..and if ur still worried about it..its always safer to be over-dressed than under-dressed.

Thanks but should I wear a suit for the interview?

if its a personal interview.. i would probably wear a nice shirt and pants..probably a tie too...i dont think u need to go all out with the suit..but if u feel more confident in a suit..then go all out.. it cant hurt you..

I went to both Tepper (CMU) and Olin (WUSTL) last April. Dressed up for the first one Tepper. No suit or anything but very nice outfit. Was way over dressed. Most kids in jeans or chinos, saw shorts too. Very hot that day at CMU. So when I went to Olin, I dressed more casually. No problem everyone else was dressed casually too.

if we see prospective applicants walking around wharton buildings in suits, we laugh - be comfortable and you'll be fine.

depending on the interviewer, a suit (or at least a jacket with tie) may be appropriate.

I wore a suit to my NYU Stern interview and I got in so.. nothin 2 lose..

oh and don't forget to research up on the university.

if you plan on majoring in business. get a few suits. i personally hate "the suit" but its pretty much mandatory attire once you hit junior year and are actively seeking networking and internship opportunities. basically, the rule of thumb is "Wear a suit when looking for a job" other than that, dress in ripped jeans and polos like me. =)

It is said that "You can see the difference between a senior business major and a freshman by the number of sports jackets in the closet."
