Visiting Williams tomorrow

Any last-minute recommendations or things we shouldn't miss? On campus, in town, restaurants, etc.
Thanks!

Don’t miss the Clark Museum. We love Hopkins Forest (owned by Williams a little out of town.)

If you are spending $$$$ for a great meal Mezze is amazing. If you want a less expensive meal, we found the little Mexican restaurant just outside of town wonderful.

At the school certainly see the Bronfman Science Bldgs., Chapin Hall, Thompson Cathedral and the dorms. If you are a music person, the music bldg. is right by Chapin. Go into Paresky (Student Center.) The Louise Bourgeois eyes by the WC Art Museum are a land mark.

The school merchandise is in town.

It depends of course on your interests–unfortunately the next 2 days will be wet, which will make your visit a bit less charming. mythmom has great suggestions-- also the WCMA, and if sports are any interest, the gym. There are two different freshman dorm set ups–Mission–1970s/80s ugly (singles, by and large) and Freshman Quad–more collegiate (but doubles, by and large)-- check them out so when you make your housing requests you have a sense of your options’ pluses and minuses. The theatre (OMG–it is professional quality because of the summer festival) too.

We didn’t find Mission ugly. We found it beautiful. My S had a 4th floor room (yes, sorry, a walkup) on the corner so it was slightly larger with two windows, and it was like living in a tree house. You can pretty much control which dorm you’re in by specifying your desire for a single or a double. He asked for a single, and yup, got a single in Mission. We thought they looked like honeycombs and S was very happy there.

He got great numbers and had spectacular housing all four years. (Well, soph not so great.)

Yes, the 62 Center (the theater complex) is beautiful.

And the library (Sawyer Library) is being rebuilt in a different spot (you can find the plan on the website for the new library), so don’t agonize over the unappealing red, brick brutalist library. Brutalist is not my term but the actual name of that 70’s architecture. The raising of that structure will give an open quad-like feeling.
