Visiting Yale

Hi, I'm a prospective applicant to Yale's Class of 2013, and I want to ask a question about when to visit Yale's campus. As I would like to visit when classes are in session, I can either visit during the first week of classes at Yale (probably sometime around September 5) or in mid-October. Which do you recommend? Also, is it recommended to go on a campus tour even if you know someone at Yale College who can introduce you to the campus himself?

Also, is it possible to stay overnight in the dorm room of an undergrad I know? If yes, on which nights can I stay?

I don't think it matters if it's Sept or mid Oct when you sit in on classes. I guess the October lectures will be more into the "meat" of the subject. The campus tour can be informative but you don't have to stick w/it. SOmetimes your fellow tourers (is this a word?) can be uptight parents/kids w tons of (sometimes embarrassing) questions for the guide. But you can get some cool anecdotes from most likely, a very devoted and energetic guide. Of course your casual time with your friend will give you more intimate time w/undergrads -- which will be your best resource.

If you arrange it, there's no "limit" on what day is good or not. Ask your friend to see what's good for him/her and the roommates. Enjoy New Haven and good luck next application season.
