Visiting...

Okay, I'm going to visit JHU on the 13th. However, I need some help. First of all, what are the guided tour and info session like? Is it geared toward prospective applicants or admitted students or general public?
Also, how is the day visit program? What would you get to see? Would you recommend it?
Lastly, is it easy/advisable to speak with professors or have a tour of the bme facilities? If so, how?

The guided tour (from what I remember) basically introduces you to the buildings on campus. The tour guides talk about Hopkins's history, student life, greek life, academics, the city etc. You will most likely not see any dorm rooms on the tour - as far as I know, they're only being shown on the open houses.

The day visits program, according to the Admissions website is basically lunch with a student and sitting in on classes. I would take advantage of the opportunity to talk with current students and ask them any questions you have. As for classes, I think admissions will help you find classes to visit, but if you want, you can look at the Spring 06 schedule and see if there are any classes that interest you that you want to sit in on.

Most professors are very friendly and would be glad to meet with students. I met with faculty members at all but one of the ten colleges I visited last year and found it was a good way to learn more about the programs and resources than what is on the website. If you want to meet with a faculty member, go to the department website and send out an email to the department chair. Tell them you're a prospective (admitted?) student and you'd like to meet with them on the 13th to learn more about the program. Ask them if they can meet with you, or if not, if they can recommend another faculty member that you should contact. (If you're going to one of the Open Houses, then there are already presentations set up from all the academic departments and there might not be a point to meeting privately with a faculty member unless you have specific questions/concerns etc)

Wow, thanks for all the info, tanman.
