Okay, So I'm visiting Tulane in a couple weeks, is there anything I should know/do before going? Any tips, advice... anything? haha

Check the weather before going. Louisiana winter weather can be very flaky. One day it might be 30 degrees, and two days later it might be in the 70s. I was actually in New Orleans the week after it snowed on December 19, and it the high was 78!

I agree with Sleepy_Sentry regarding weather. Also, you might consider staying near the streetcar line, which runs along St. Charles Avenue. Oh, and get a really good street map! Good luck with the visit.

im visiting in a few weeks too... this is wikid random but does tulane offer overnight visits?

haha on a sidenote..i just saw the new brad pitt movie (unusual case of benjamin button or w/e) and it takes place in New Orleans--totallyyyyy made me love the cityy from what i saw lol!! but maybe thats just cuz brad pitt and all of his amazingness graced his presence there..

Try to experience the city too.

Check out the french quarter while your down there. Maybe Bourbon Street too(it's fun but it may freak your parents out a bit.) And don't forget that New Orleans is the most haunted city in America. There are all kinds of cool ghost tours and voodoo shops. If your interested in service, you may want to check out the 9th ward. Last time i was there(last spring) it looked pretty much the same as it did a month after Katrina.

If I recall correctly, Tulane will arrange overnights in conjunction with its honors weekend program, but not for other routine visits. However, if you happen to know someone who attends, you can just contact them to arrange to stay with them.

oh sweet! i got into the honors program so i really want to do an overnight visit! is that what the "destination tulane" weekend is? or is there a seperate honors weekend..?

I think that there is a separate weekend for honors. Two of them if i remember correctly.

eri - I think a couple days in NOLA trumps an overnight in the dorms, but what do I know? JMHO. If you want to stay near campus you might consider a walk in Audubon Park, a visit to the Zoo, breakfast at Camillia Grill, a burger at Bud's Broiler, and of course a ride on the streetcar. Bourbon street before 10 PM should be OK (suggest an early dinner on the Johnny White's balcony). Royal Street (a couple blocks over) is worth walking. I could go on, but you get the idea.

The year my D was admitted the Honors weekend was the first weekend of the month long Destination Tulane...

There will be a separate honors invitation forthcoming I believe - or there may be more information on the Tulane website in a month or two.
