Visting Chicago

Is there a good place to stay in the Hyde Park area? We have not found one, and have been staying in a hotel downtown, but it seems like there should be something.

Is anyone out there going to, or has anyone been to, the Pitchfork music festival? Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

I had no business downtown so I decided to try the International House for a quick trip by myself in October and though spartan, it worked out very well for a quite inexpensive 2 days. There is free parking right across the street at night. S was very busy that weekend so we barely had time to go to eat a couple of times and we drove to the city.

There’s a motel off Lakeshore Drive in the northeastern part of Hyde Park (not really near the University), there’s International House, which is a dorm visitors with a University connection can stay in for cheap (communal bathrooms, one per floor per sex), and I think there are a few B&Bs. That’s it for Hyde Park. Staying downtown is what people do, most of the time.

The University knows it needs a modern, classy, full-service hotel in Hyde Park. If you want a bit of a giggle, research the history of efforts to get one built there.
