Visual Arts At Columbia

Hi, I am gonna be a senior next year, just wondering, do Columbia have a good undergrad visual arts program? Since my parents prefer that I don't apply to Yale, which is the only other ivy school that i know of to be strong in visual arts. I do not want to go to a Art School for my undergrad studies, so can anyone, Columbia Alumi, etc. help me out? Thanks =)

former girlfriend majors in visual arts and from what I've seen of her and her friends' work, Columbia's quite intense and expansive in the visual arts field.
A better visual arts program in the city would have to be found at NYU however,

yep NYU and cooper both have better programs, however they tend to be lacking in other fields of study, I am not sure what I am going to major in, exactly, and my parents don't want me to pursue a full career in art, being first-generation immigrant and all....
Anyways, thanks for the tip, btw do you know if columbia offers double major programs or major-minor?

yes, columbia does offer double majors (which can be tough to fit), major-concentrations, and double concentrations. in fact, you don't even need a major to graduate--you only a concentration, which is slightly more in-depth than a "minor" at other colleges. i figure they probably allow this because the core, which can take up a lot of your schedule, provides such a great foundation in the liberal arts that while it is generally recommended that you actually major in something, your education will be well-rounded and complete even if you choose only a single concentration.

awesome! thanks!

Btw, Soho and any other people who knows the columbia visual arts program, is it more film media intensive or does it allow you a full scale visual arts aka, trad drawing, painting, animation etc. since my interest is in more animation and drawing, painting rather than in 3-D or film media studies like 2-D design type of thing, thanks :)

Columbia isn't so film intensive. That's their legendary grad school. The visual arts major at Columbia throws you in immediately in a sculpture class, a drawing class, a printmaking class. And then you go on to painting, animation design, etc. There's a lot to offer in the visual arts field at Columbia.
