Visual Arts Classes like High School?

Does anyone know if the Visual Arts classes, more specifically, VIS 1,2,3,111, are like high school? i.e. create a neat (not sloppy) final product and get an A?

I would like to know the answer to this question also.

my friend took a vis art class her first quarter (i think it was like 2-D artmaking or something)...she was pretty good, but the class seemed like a lot of work...DEFINITELY not like high school where you just put in minimal effort and you get an A. Make sure you really enjoy doing art before you take it!

^ I second that.

Someone I know took Vis arts last quarter and she mentioned how surprised she was that a visual arts class required so much time and effort. (she had a different experience in high school). But on a brighter side, she also mentioned that it was extremely fun.

according to some data i found, the average person gets anywhere between a 3.3-3.5 in lower division visart classes.

thanks ucsdhopeful! that data's a bit discouraging, to be honest. I need to choose between a fine arts sequence and a humanities sequence to fulfill Muir GE reqs >_<

3.3-3.5 is really quite high. especially since that average includes people who don't care and blow it off or are druggies and don't attend class or turn in assignments, and the teachers who are just plain hard for no reason.

i looked some other averages up for you:
mus4-15: 2.8-3.3
hild: 3.1-3.25
lten: 3.0-3.1
philosophy: 2.8-3.0
theater: 3.3-3.7 (WOW)

the data i could find was rather incomplete so don't make choices based on what you see here. and besides, you'll do better in a class you're interested in.

UCSD is not high school.

=)

oh wow lten 3.0-3.1?? I wanted to take lten 27,28,29 to fulfill the cultural diversity requirement instead of vis 1,2,3

lol jv1122, I said -like-...I'm really curious about how the art's graded (effort vs. creativity). there were no reviews for the prof on ratemyprofessors.com

ucsdhopeful, Where did you get those averages?
