Visual arts program at Brown

Does anyone here have feedback on the visual arts program at Brown? Looking for a good communication arts/visual communication program that offers a variety of art and liberal arts classes. Thanks.

I'm an art major here at Brown. Though I haven't been here very long, I think the program is very good. You have RISD as a rescource for a wide variety of more "exotic" classes as well as a wide variety of classes at Brown.

What do you mean by arts communication?

If I remember correctly (after looking at many websites) it was the visual communications program. My daughter is wants to pursue art and the idea of illustration, animation or graphic design appeal to her. She is an excellent student so I was looking at schools that have the liberal arts as well as art courses. I would like her to have a variety of courses to choose from in order to see where her interests like. I have also looked into stand alone art schools but I believe she would benefit from the experience of a more traditional college campus.

Thanks and I hope you continue to enjoy Brown. What kind of art are you interested in?

No problem.

I'm not sure if there's visual communication, but there's art semiotics...which I think may be the same thing. I encourage you to check out that program.

If she's interested in illustration/animation/graphic design, and wants a traditional (i.e. not strictly art) school, than Brown may be the best choice possible. Most traditional schools don't have those courses. That includes Brown. However, RISD next door does!!

Now, I don't want you to get too starry eyed here, because cross registering at RISD is very difficult, and it would be a lot easier to find a school that has those courses in its catalog if you can. But if you are like me and love every thing about Brown except for the lack of those courses, I'd really suggest it. I'm in a similar boat. My art is ceramics, which is only offered at RISD.

sorry for the spelling errors in my last post. I do not see an edit function to fix them.

Oh, well then you're daughter can't get into Brown :)
