Visual Arts question

I've been accepted into the Park School as a Film, Photography, and Visual Arts B.F.A. as a freshman. I intend on hopefully going to NYU as a graduate, and I intend on having a career in directing. Soo, Park students, I was wondering; should I remain in the B.F.A. or try and transfer my major to the Cinema and Photography B.S.? I also have other interests (history and language, specifically); which major would better allow me to expand on those? Which is a better program/more prestigious? I am also very adamant about going abroad--I've heard that it's difficult to plan going abroad if you're in the B.F.A. Thoughts?

Thanks! :)

I am a TV-R major but I have friends are are BFAs and CPers so I’ll give you what they have told me.

If you become a B.S. Cinema & Photography major you’ll pick a concentration: Cinema Production, Screenwriting, or Still Photography. You’ll have 63-79 credits worth of electives of any subject you want to take so you can take language or history courses 53-54 credits as electives. You have +/- 50 credits to play around with.

I would say that if you like all aspects of the cinema field go into the BFA program because you take different levels of photography and cinema classes. C&P majors only have to take the intro courses and then they choose a concentration.

The thing about going abroad is whether your credits will transfer. I don’t know if you know about the Los Angeles program where you take 2 classes and then you have internships in Hollywood. Some people choose to study abroad during the summer and then go to Los Angeles junior or senior year to see whether they want to do that in the future.

Most people say that BFA > BS because of the amount of work in the BFA program. You learn so much more because you learn how to use all this equipment and can experiment in with different ways.
