Visual Arts Supplement for Common Application?

Hey guys,

I just have a quick question concerning the Arts Supplement on the common application. I'm not majoring in visual arts by any stretch but it is certainly a large hobby of mine: I take classes, participate in shows, etc. Anyway! There are a couple sections on the supplement that I would love to have clarified:

"Please indicate your area of interest and provide supplementary materials, as
required."
Where I'd check the 'visual arts' box obviously, but once I do so, a bunch of separate categories come up such as 'photography,' 'painting,' 'drawing,' etc, with a blank box nearby each category. Now do I just write the number of pieces of each that I'm submitting? Or do those blank boxes signify something else?

Also,

"Provide a web address where member institutions can view or listen to a 10-
minute sample of your work that demonstrates contrasting examples of expression and technique."
I'm a little confused about the 10-minute sample requirement when it comes to visual art. Additionally, do we need a super-professional, actual website? I do have a deviantart account and I just made a Flickr account- would something like this (Common Application Arts Supplement - a set on Flickr) be acceptable?

Thanks guys :)

2) I don’t know if it’s acceptable or not but if it isn’t, consider creating a website until you get your decision. And even then, you may decide to keep it.

Thanks, I will consider doing that!

Bump, would like #1 to be answered if anyone knows, thanks :)

gustavklimt,

I would recommend putting some detail in any of the boxes that apply to the visual arts that you practice. For example, for photography you could put ‘nature’ or ‘still life’; painting you could list the type of painting that you like to do. Don’t try to get too elaborate, but give the college some idea of the type of specific art that you do. This will give them some idea of where you are coming from artistically.

Help please!
1.) Do we just put an X indicating which one, or the number of pieces, or what?
2.) How bad is it to go over a little? I’m submitting songs and I would like to not have to cut them off mid-song.
