I have a 3.87 GPA (uw) and a 4.67 weighted (my school only reports weighted on transcript). I’m going to be taking these AP classes next year: calc ab and physics c. I have already taken AP psych and lang and & comp.

I took the ACT earlier this year and got a 33 composite (35 R and S, 33 M and 28 E), I’ll probably take it again this coming spring or fall.

EC’s: I am involved in MMA fighting, founder and president of an improv comedy club that meets in local bars, I ran the chicago marathon for charity, I’m very involved in my church and am part of the student leadership team (so obviously I’ve done the mission trip thing) and that’s it! (plus taking some online courses from Stanford and Coursera in computer science).

So my main question is, will I get into SLO given that I have not taken a visual performing arts class? I realize it is a requirement but I don’t know if they ever waive that requirement for certain people, as I just don’t have room in my schedule.

Thanks for all the help, if any other info is needed or wanted, I’d love to share.

Another out of stater yay! I’d give admissions a call and ask them if I were you. If they do require it, maybe you can take something over the summer that will count? There are some places that offer condensed courses, so you could possibly get it over with in a few weeks during the summer. Cal Poly (all Cal States really) don’t care much about EC’s. Admission is heavily based on test scores and GPA. Your ACT score is good enough to get in. Plus they love out of state students cause we pay three times as much, which means you take up the space of one student while paying as much as three. What are you thinking about majoring in? And if you have any other questions about anything, I’ll do my best to answer them.

Just thought I’d update the thread for future people reading this.

I reached out to the UCSB admissions office through phone and they said that while it is usually required, it can be waived in certain circumstances. They said that extraordinary applicants have a chance to be waived from the requirement. However, she also said that they will give priority to top applicants who do meet all the reqs.
