Visual/Performing/Fine Arts High School Course Requirement

What determines a visual/performing/fine art? My understanding is that many universities require one year of study in high school of a visual/performing/fine art. Would taking the broadcast journalism course offered at my school and helping produce the subsequent news program satisfy this requirement?
Any information would be appreciated!

If you attend a California public or private high school and are interested in UC and CSU universities, then look up your high school’s courses in http://doorways.ucop.edu to see which ones satisfy the art requirement.

I attend a public school outside the state of California but am interested in UC and CSU universities. Does this change any of the visual/fine/performing arts requirements?

No, but it may make it harder to figure out which courses at your high school qualify if your school is not listed in http://doorways.ucop.edu .
