Last year my son applied to IMGD as his first choice and Viterbi (CS-Games) as his second choice. He was denied to IMGD (no big surprise there) and was accepted as Undecided/Dornsife. After he talked to the Admissions Director at Viterbi he learned that he was never even evaluated for his second choice major at Viterbi because "There were 10,000 applicants to Viterbi and they never even evaluated the second choices."

This was verified by an email just received from Viterbi that says the following:

Q: If I complete the Common App and the USC Writing Supplement by December 1st- Do I need to do anything else extra to apply for engineering?

A. No. To be considered for admission to engineering you just need to submit the Common App and the USC Writing Supplement and list one of the Engineering disciplines as your First Choice Major- that's it.

Something for applicants to consider if Viterbi may be your second choice. My son will be transferring into Viterbi from Dornsife/Undecided as soon as he gets a 3.0 or higher in his Viterbi courses. (He is a Spring admit.)

I don't know if the wording has changed for any other Colleges within USC but it is worth checking that as well.
