Having an agent can be helpful but if you spend a lot of research time on your own you can suffice the audition world without one. You only truly need an agent when you are being presented with more work than you can handle. Most college grads can be their own agent. It can be amazing and helpful and have been the key to the door that gets you the audition for the new Hamilton but it’s not the only key out there.
Following this post with interest. D was accepted and enjoyed meeting staff and alum in Chicago.
@TNMTDAD My S was signed with an agent as a minor (and stayed with her for another year or so). He does not have his equity card yet but she is able to send him in on equity calls. I won’t pretend to know the equity rules (I am pretty clueless) but do know, at least in his case, having an agent moved him up the line for auditions. She is well known but predominantly for kids so he’ll likely not sign with her again upon graduation.
@artskids, this is such an education for us. Thank you! It’s starting to set in that the road is so much longer than just getting into a BFA MT. We will start storing all of this up to formulate a plan for the future, post BFA MT. Our next step is summer stock. Love CC.
I’m not sure I totally agree with that, @ParachuteBoy. Many auditions have agent appointments, and an agent can get you see with or without a union card, where you might not get seen by going to and EPA or ECC if you’re non union, depending on the union turnout. An agent can be helpful in getting you in the door. Does that mean you can’t work without one? Certainly not. But an agent and/or manager can get your more opportunities.
Has Viterbo made all their offers?
I don’t think so @mtmama2020. I’ll ask and see what I can find out.
@mtmamma2020 No. We still have one more audition date in March. I can’t say for sure when everyone might be hearing back, but I can say that this is quite the busy week for Theatre and Music Theatre faculty–freshman and sophomore evaluations are this week, we just closed our spring Black Box play, midterms are this week, and we are ramping up for our spring musicals while trying to deal with Spring Break this coming week and Easter at the end of the month. Please hang in there, I know the waiting is excruciating! I was on the waitlist for Viterbo, so I waited all the way through April to find out that I got in. Hopefully you have good news, and good news soon!
ETA: cross-posted with @TNMTDAD! I promise I’ll come back and answer more questions about Viterbo soon–I was in the black box play that just closed this weekend (after a GREAT run), and I’m still catching up with a few assignments before my midterms! Hang tight, everybody!
@CanadianMTgirl, I heard Mrs. Packard was FANTASTIC. So wish we could have been there.
I found out today that they should be finalizing decisions this week for people who haven’t heard. Not sure about how they will be delivering decisions though…
@stagedoormama thank you for the update! I’ve been patiently waiting for news since Chicago! I’d assume thru email like the others?
One would hope- but “how” is one thing D didn’t ask. We have been waiting since NY Unifieds.
Good to know I’m not the only one in this state of limbo. It starts to feel like you’re the only one still waiting so you just assume it’s bad news. They have this one last audition so I’m definitely staying optimistic! Best of luck!
We got emails and then a letter. Still waiting on scholarship info
I auditioned in Chicago Unifieds, and they said “you’ll be hearing from us in roughly two weeks.” But now it’s a month later. However, I was just academically admitted this Monday so maybe that is why?
@actsingdanceMT20 we auditioned in Chicago as well and my D was told the same thing, she also had applied and been admitted several weeks earlier. I think we are in limbo waiting to see the outcome of the pending offers but I say no news is good news!!
Agreed with above and in the same exact boat^^
Still waiting for them as well! Getting worried, it isn’t good news haha.
don’t worry @destiny95 it seems like a lot of us still are!
Same same.
