wow, i'm really left with a tuff decision here, I want to become a civil engineer and have limited my choices(thought I was for sure tech but read some new stuff and not too positive as of yet) to both VMI and VA TECH for civil engineering. I was wondering what any of you thought of the civil engineering programs at each of the schools...and which may be better, one thing that makes me a little worried of Tech is the size of the classrooms and the fact that b/c so many students attend, that the teachers may not really care about their students and helping them, am i right to assume this?

Go vatech their program is much better.

Va Tech has great engineering programs & is much bigger & deeper that VMI. Many of my workmates who went there enjoyed the experience, but I must admit I have never asked them (nor have they mentioned) about the school being too big & impersonal. That said, I find it interesting that much of Virginia's municipal & state engineering organizations are led by VMI grads....relatively speaking, its a smaller but very tight group with a knack for being promoted into responsible roles.

Depends on what you want. VMI will give you much smaller classes - a much smaller town - and the military life. VA Tech is bigger, but will have more course offerings, maybe better facilities, more research opportunities, and is not military. Huge focus on sports there, too. Blacksburg is, naturally, a much larger town.
