wow, that's certainly interesting.....
i can give you tips on how to increase your score by a few points beyond memorizing the roots, but it sounds like you need something more effective. can anyone help this guy?

BUMP!!!!!!!!!!! help him. ill bump this until you get an answer koreanme and if you dont get help, post in the main forum

i think i can improve my reading score but my verbal is hopeless :(

aww thx for caring so much

Eat a good breakfast (the morning of), get a lot of sleep (the night before), take a few practice tests (a couple days before), and BE FOCUSED

Get the book vocabulary cartoons I memorized half the book in a day. IT IS THE BEST VOCAB BOOK EVER! I'm not even good at memorizing. But I memorized like 100 words in a day.

latin555,
where can you get that book? link?

anyone else? HELP HIM!!! bumppppppppppp all you 99er's, give him some advice. all i remember is italian boarder got a 99. if you read this help him

How did you prepare for this test overall?

You can get it on Amazon it only cost around 10. But I swear I know so many new words because they have really good cartoons that help you memorize all of the words and their meanings.

I think Saer also got a 99. Anyone who got a 99 come boast!

Buy this book

You can try FreeRice as far as the vocabulary goes. If you do it for about 30 minutes or so a day for the next five days it will guaranteed come in handy on at least one or two (if not more) of the SSAT questions and if it helps even at all then I think that it's worth the time.
Studies have shown that listenining to Classical music before standardized tests helps you perform better as it gets your mind working in like an orderly sort of way.. HA I did it before the SSAT :D And I did pretty well!
Good luck. I can tell you, I've been on my friend's facebook (she currently goes to Exeter) many times and they have this group called Phillips Exeter Academy Class of 2012, and there is one thread in their little discussion board where they all shared SSAT scores. Here are some direct quotes if it makes ya feel any better. (All people who got accepted):
"wow ... 91% overall... (58% on the math!!!! I'm proud to be probably the worst math student going into Exeter this fall.)... but 99% on the reading so it evens out "

"i dont think it matters that much at exeter cuz i got an 87% overall and my highest was a 91 in reading. wow guys way to make me feel DUMB......... just kidding haha :-)"

"1. there is no cutoff. The admission can let you in if you think you had a good interview, liked your essays, or simply cuz Exeter gets money.
2. i got 93% overall. i once got 45% for Critical Reading. hehe XP"

..Don't stress over the SSAT. They aren't everything, and if you have good grades in school then the Admissions office will just assume you aren't a good standardized test taker/didn't study/ etc. and probably let it fly!

Wow thanks for sharing that. That really boosts my confidence level!!!

Okay, so I got a 99 on verbal, and the best advice I can give you is READ. Seriously, I suck at memorizing but a LOT of the words on the test came from books that I read, and some from tv... And relax. Don't get all nervous or freak out and try to cram some more right before the test, just sleep reaaaaaally early and that should bump up your score some =]

bump........

haha yeaa i saw that. i also saw the supposedly "real" acceptance rate of exeter in the description box

Thx to everyone!
i have a question
for reading, wud it be better to read the questions first?
also, for vocab, is there like a specific list of words that will come up on the test?
lastly, do the schools look at the overall grade the most?

"specific list of words that will come up on the test" haha, that'd be a cheat sheet, wouldn't it? & no, there isn't, although there is a Hit List on the Princeton Review book, although that didn't help AT ALL. ;_;

overall grade? i guess they look into it, but if you have something seriously lacking in 1 field, they will/should notice it.. it's better to be well-rounded than to have 99, 99, and 1. in my opinion, anyways.. (as long as the well-rounded still has a decent-ish overall. lol)

reading the questions first.. ? no, i don't think so, but different people have different strategies. if that helps for you, then do it.. ? haha :P
