Vocab in SAT essay

Is high level vocab necessary for 10-12?

you don’t have to use archaic, fancy words to get a 10-12. more vocab is suggested, but as long as you get your point across clearly and concisely, you’ll do well. likewise, just because you use big words doesn’t mean you’ll get a 10-12

Its holistic so you don’t need high level vocab for a double digit score, but it helps a lot.

You don’t need to use crazy complicated high level words. Only use words you are familiar with and comfortable with. Hopefully, through your school and SAT studying you have familiarized yourself with a decent amount of vocab, which you can employ in your essay.

You need to use strong vocab, but not necessarily “high level” vocab.

Consider the difference between using bad vs detrimental.
It has proven to be bad for society.
It has proven to be detrimental for society.

You dont need to pull out super big, complicated words like ‘deleterious’ or ‘pernicious’ for a 12. Just using varying, strong diction with more simple and lower level words like detrimental.

Never try to force in big vocab words you aren’t 100% familiar with. This will very much weaken your essay and score
