My biggest problem in the CR section is the vocab. I'm getting the concept and the information pretty well, but the first vocab section, and the complicated vocab in the passage questions kill me.
Any tips? I'm trying to use Direct Hits to learn some of the vocab. Anything else that might help?

Personally, I went from a 470 to a 740 in CR. Vocab was my main problem too. I recommend that you buy Krieger’s new book, “500 Essential Words”. That book has the highest percentage of hits on the actual SAT. For desperate measures, and I certainly do not support this, you could put a program on your calculator. I know some people that just programmed an SAT dictionary onto their calculator and once they finished math they would look up the words. Those are the two options and I definitely would go with the first one. No point in risking it + it’s better to actually have a good vocabulary in day-to-day life.

Direct Hits(both volumes), Vocabulary Cartoons(two volumes), and the Essential 300 Words were what I used to learn all the Vocabulary. They’re all very helpful since the words are accompanied by funny sentences and pictures. I always took mini tests to make sure I maintained my memory. Try taking them online or have your parents make one. Flash cards are good too but I firmly believe that taking tests help the most.

Direct hits is good, but kriegers book is amazing. I only got one vocab word wrong on the oct sat, and it was actually in the book but I forgot it. If you memorize every word in direct hits and kriegers then you’re guaranteed success.
