i've used Barron's for vocab, and i see no improvement. Despite learning most of the words, the CB blue book practically has none of them in there[in the sentence completion section]! any suggestions for learning vocab words that have frequently appeared on the SAT?

I would get Direct Hits from Amazon. I ordered copies of both and am impressed. His examples make it easy remember the words.

according to xiggi, Barron's list are useless.

^ They're not completely useless. Barrons, unlike many other poor excuses for sat prep books, actually contain the definitions of each of the words in the 3500 word list.

I got Word Smart, would recommend that one.

i suggest princeton rev's word smart I and II.

^, remember to finish II as well lol.

Barron's 3500 word list is great. It has almost every word you would ever need. The problem is that it has 3500 WORDS. :D

^agreed. The 3500 word list is indeed a problem, there ought to be more. I would suggest purchasing the American heritage dictionary and memorizing all 90,000 words.

haha, remember 90,000 words, you're kidding :))

Barron wordlist is so dense >.< i prefer WordSmart :X

The sparknotes 1000 isn't bad

word smart is great, but how about Gruber and Nova words list?

I used Direct Hits and it was very useful--the examples are stories and they are grouped in ways that you can work on it for 20 min a day

Direct Hits is great except it's sold out. Amazon has it out of stock, Barnes and Nobles doesn't have it till September 1st, and I don't trust Lulu.

In the meantime I'm using Barron's SAT wordmaster flash cards.
