Vocab

how do you memorize vocab? I can't just look at the word and definition and memorize (and retain) it...

any tips?

Go to mnemonicdictionary.com . That is where I memorized over 3000 vocab for the sat. However, as a chinese student, I couldn’t understand half of what was in the website because it is mostly populated by indian speakers trying to learn english. However, the half that i got were more than enough to help me remember some of the sat vocabulary. Good luck!

Write it down multiple times and use quizlet.

thanks for the tips…

the vocab i’m mainly focusing on is for SAT (the ones in the reading passages and sentence completions), which you can use in your essays in school (and on the test)… any tips on how to prepare for that? are there any good vocabulary books, which have methods and quizzes too?

The Direct Hits series is great for vocab IMO. Highly recommended.
You can also try flashcards. Studyblue ([STUDYBLUE | Make online flashcards & notes. Study anywhere, anytime.](http://www.studyblue.com/)) is a great tool to create online lists.
