I'm familiar with the Glee Club and some of the major Notre Dame choirs that travel and perform across the country. Can anyone tell me what other vocal music opportunities there are on the campus? Are there any choirs or vocal music groups that aren't quite as extensive in commitment--ones that only practice a few days a week and don't travel?

Also, what about informal opportunities to sing, like open microphone nights or Karaoke? Any variety shows, student musicals, etc.?

There are a number of liturgical groups -- Folk Group, Liturgical Choir, Women's Liturgical Choir, etc -- that operate out of Campus Ministry. They're listed on the website. During orientation there's a sort of joint audition for all/most of the groups, and the vocalists hear which choir wants them. Most require just one or two evenings a week plus a weekend performance, and the travel is over breaks for the most part. There's also more informal vocal groups organized by the dorms for masses. And of course there are other events (St. Ed's Players, Keenan Review, and the like) though they're not really singing-oriented.
