Vocal performance: first-tier and second-tier

Check out Mannes School of Music. Small conservatory in a big city (NYC). It is part of New School. You get the advantages of small school but the opportunitites of being in NYC.

I listened to the Stanford Commencement speech given by Steve Jobs last night. It was inspirational talking about commencement speeches. One interesting example was he dropped out of Reed College but then hung around and attended classes out of pure interest, one on calligraphy. His exposure to that class created the fonts that we now use on all computers...he learned about the beauty of special fonts and later used them when creating his computers.

Total aside to this discussion, sorry.
What a wonderful anecdote. The simplest things in our lives can change both our lives and through that the whole world. Yeah, yeah I know, few of us will have the same impact that Steve Jobs has had, but I'm really only concerned with my little corner of the universe.
Please don't tell me that you know for certain the anecdote is made up, I like the message.

Opps..just one more little diversion. It's a compelling listen.
