Any of you also interested in Musical Theatre? If so do you know anything about CMU Musical Theatre program meaning do they train the classical voice? My D was put on their priority wait list for their musical theatre program and she has to make a decision to stay there or not. If she does and gets a call to join the class she has 72 hours to make a deposit. She did not expect this and this was her only musical theatre audition. She sees herself as the next Audra McDonald meaning she ultimately wants to do musical theatre. Anyway, I don't want her to lose or stop training her beautiful voice. Having never been to this school (yeah, we'll be making a trip to Pittsburgh) we are kind of hoping for some educated opinions. Have any of you been in this situation?

I know absolutely nothing about VP or MT, but I do know there is a Musical Theatre Major forum on CC where you could also post this question (if you haven’t already).

BCVIOLINMOM, yep I know about that forum and I will post there but I think it’s more likely that people do both here and not there. We’ll see. Thank you none the less. Also if you say CMU in musical theatre forum it creates some excitement and I don’t think posters are all that excitable lol - not a bad thing at all.

The MT forum on CC is very active. I have a daughter who is a theater major (acting, not MT) and there’s some overlap so I’ve been following them for a while. I think you would do well posting there. To be honest, Priority Waitlist for CMU is a huge deal, although very few girls get off this list. CMU auditions thousands and accepts only 5-7 girls in MT. If you daughter is priority waitlist at CMU that’s a huge validation. CMU is probably the top MT program in the US and is one of the top acting programs. If she gets in you should strongly consider accepting.

Thanks glass. May I call you glass? My D actually found a more efficient way of getting this question answered. Twitter and the unified. lol I’m too old fashioned!

CMU’s web site has a list of teachers for both disciplines and they have different faculty listed for each.

@Dradsmom - I had the same reaction as glassharmonica. CMU - wow! Grab that opportunity with both hands.

Dradsmom …Congratulations on your D’s unexpected placement on CMU’s waitlist! I just wanted you to know that over on the MT Major forum, they started a thread on Cost of Attendance. Carnegie Mellon’s cost was listed as $61,422 - $64,422 per year!

@symphonyart - very good point! Kind of forgot about that whole money thing…
