Just heard from my son – he got the Juilliard email on Jan 24th, too, and passed the prescreen.

Is anyone else waiting for Curtis? They say they’re going to assess VP prescreens next week and try to get the decisions out by Feb 1 (next Thursday). Best of luck to all.

Thanks SingerMomOR and SimpleLife for your words of encouragement, and congrats on your good news! My D wasn’t too surprised about the Juilliard Prescreen result. She just applied to take a chance…she has a lot of auditionscoming up, for some great programs, and we are all learning so much through this challenging, but ultimately rewarding (I hope) journey. I wish your D and S much luck with theirs!

^Absolutely right, lisanic. Juilliard is a pretty tough prescreen, and there are LOTS of other great programs out there. My son didn’t even apply to Juilliard for undergrad. He was wanting a full liberal arts education along with his BM degree. In fact, there’s a very well-known and well-respected Juilliard voice teacher who says, herself, that undergrads would be wise to save the conservatory experience for grad school and that the vast majority of young singers should aim for a well-rounded, liberal arts education at a state school or LAC over a conservatory like Juilliard! We didn’t know that when my son chose only LAC’s in high school – but we sure were intrigued to hear it later on.

Your D had some good success so far! Chances are very good that she, and all of the other applicants on here, will end up exactly where they fit best. That’s the good news that I try to tell myself during the stress of my son’s auditions. :)

Yes SimpleLife, I think you are right. And I tend to agree with that wise Juilliard teacher! Supporting our hardworking kids, and helping them through the process while they begin to figure out this stuff for themselves may not be easy, but I am glad to be along for the ride with my D, and I know it will work out the way it is meant to in the end! Thanks again for your kind words!

Thank goodness. Curtis VP prescreen results are finally out! Woo hoo! My son passed. Audition dates have not yet been released.

I’ll add Curtis to the list …

^To clarify … Curtis’ general vp audition dates HAVE been released, in the prescreen notification email … but not the candidates’ specific audition dates and times.

Congrats, SimpleLife. My daughter passed Curtis today, too! So exciting! (Her pre-screen did not pass DePaul, so imagine how shocked we still are! I guess the lesson here is not to lose faith in your pre-screen just because one school declines.) Notification came today via email–we have dates, but not time slot.

^Yay! Congratulations, annie43! So exciting! That’s seemingly ridiculous about DePaul! Hahhahaa. Aren’t you the one who was kind of worried about your D’s successes on that other thread? Can I assume it was the DePaul results that got you worried? Truly, as someone else pointed out on that other thread – and on many other threads before it – the audition process is a weird and unpredictable adventure. It can be very hard to make rhyme or reason of it. So happy for you and your D. I hope you’re feeling better about her travails.

I was feeling all alone here about Curtis. Wondering if anybody else here had applied …

And may I say? This audition process is EXPENSIVE! So glad to have the opportunities … but boy, oh boy, is it ever adding up!

Congrats to annie43 and D!

SimpleLife, yes that was me whining about the pre-screen process and its effectiveness. I’ve no idea how many vocal students are invited to audition at Curtis, and I’m sure the competition is fierce. However, my D’s confidence has zoomed way up and I’m sure that will have a great impact on the CMU audition she has this weekend. What a wild and crazy ride!

^Seriously. It is a wild and crazy ride! Best of luck at CMU … and all that follows. :)

Congratulations to annie43! I hope that your D is feeling better…good luck at the audition(s). It just goes to show that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure-and the institutions that have shown interest in your D are very impressive. I’m assuming that all of these decisions were based on the same videos, correct? Go figure…and too bad for DePaul…their loss!

ProMusician, thank you! Yes, they are based on exactly the same videos. D visited and took a lesson, and had a personal recommendation at DePaul, but neither visited nor took lessons at CMU or Curtis, where she knows no one. So odd–but she is really happy tonight. She may end up at neither of these great schools, but it is a much-needed boost to her confidence as a singer to be invited to audition!

Congratulations annie43 and Simplelife! I concur 100% - a wild and crazy ride! Ours is about to begin with multiple auditions in the next 2 weeks and then a break and more the next 3 weekends!

I would love to hear from all regarding final decisions! Good luck all and have fun!

^Thanks, SingerMomOR! Wow, sounds like your D’s audition circuit will be super busy. Aren’t you the one who wrote in that your D has something like 11 auditions? I cannot imagine. I think my son had 6 auditions for undergrad. That kept us busy enough! The two of you are going to be tuckered out come late March! Congratulations on all of her successes so far! It sounds like she’s quite talented. :)

Just discovered this thread. For those of you who passed the Juilliard prescreen, could anyone tell us what a girl should wear to a voice audition there? D’s is on 3/7, and I’m not sure whether she has an appropriate outfit. Is a nice dress, knee length okay, or does it matter? Should it be more formal, black, or at least a solid color? Thanks!

Phew!! What a crazy process!!
D got an e-mail yesterday as well - passed undergrad prescreen from Curtis.
Congratulations to all the students who have been anxiously awaiting pre-screen results, but most of all to the parents who have been right there with our kids!
I don’t think the rest of the college bound world understands…

^I think you’re right, yellowsub. I don’t think the rest of the college bound world is aware of just how much extra effort goes into applying for a music degree. (or dance, theater, and a small host of other fields)

Congratulations to your D and to you for her Curtis prescreen success! She seems to have had a lot of successes so far. Best of luck in all of her auditions! :)

May I say, fellow CCer’s? … you sure were quiet about your Curtis hopes and dreams. ;)

I was feeling all alone out here … “Anybody else waiting for Curtis? … (dead silence) …”

And may I also say … was it just killing you come yesterday late-afternoon, like it was me?? Hahhaaha! “We’ll be listening to your prescreens over the next two weeks and will let you know.” … (silence for three weeks) … Then, “We’ll be listening to your prescreens over the next week and hope to let you know by Feb 1.” (silence for another week) … but they came through at the end of the day!

I’m a planner. I have a very busy life of my own. It can be a challenge to work all these airline tickets, hotels, and rental cars into my limited free time. Just let me get to work planning already, lol.

Anyway, that was it for us. We were just waiting on that final prescreen word from Curtis. I hope everybody else here can say the same … “The prescreen process is officially over!”

^Thanks for the good wishes, same to your son as he auditions as well! My D was fortunate, or rather lucky, to have good pre-screen results. They didn’t seem to make much sense, but it is what it is, and will be what it will be. I posted on another thread that her Early Decision at one of her top 5 was a blessing because we were able to decline the majority of her auditions, she’s only got 2 left for the season. It is such an expensive process, not fair at all. I’m happy that we had some money saved for this. It’s sad to imagine the child that has the talent, but not the means to pay for just the application, pre-screen and audition process. Colleges have application fee waivers, I wonder if they also make the same offer to students applying to music programs?
