When choosing a song for musical theatre schools, if it has been sung by big belters on broadway lets say, would it be appropriate for it to be sung by someone with a strong mix belt sound?

That's a great and very smart question! The answer is maybe not going to help you much, because it's "it depends" - it depends on how belty your mix is, and it depends on which song(s) you're talking about. WHO sang the song on Broadway isn't as important as the "common performance practice" they initiated - so for example, "Gimme Gimme" needs strong true belt money notes, since that's what the SONG is associated with. In other words, auditors won't think, "That's not how Sutton sang it," they'll think, "that needs to be a true belt at the top."

Hope that helps - at least a little! :)
