Let’s say you have 100 hours (not the case here, just hypothetical.) Could you use the same 100 hours to apply for, for example, a Congressional Award bronze medal AND a Points of Light Award? Or can you only use the same hours for one award? Thanks.
You can use those hours for both of the awards. You still have 100 hours of volunteering. “Spending” those hours on an application doesn’t use them up. You might or might not get any one of those awards.
It depends on the program. Some will let you double count, others won’t. Understand and follow the rules of the award you aspire to get.
The Congressional Award has no restrictions against double counting hours as long as you have already registered to start the award challenge, are not getting school credit or fulfilling any school requrements for doing them, and are serving in a manner consistent with CA rules (e.g.: service must benefit the community at large, not one organization or one religion, etc.).
Points of Light requires nomination and review (so presumably you won’t know if you’ll get one), but all service counts as long as it is six+ months in duration, unpaid and not court-ordered.
Thanks - this is very helpful. I appreciate it.
