Volunteer Hour Question

Hello,

I was wondering how far back one should account for when it comes to volunteer/community service hours on a college application. Is it the summer before freshman year of high school and up? Also, is there some proof required? Do I need to send along a certificate or notice from the volunteer organization?

Thanks!

Read the instructions on the application. If they don’t say anything, list hours from as far back as you want.

For my schools, there was no proof required. It might be different for your schools, though, but since you haven’t listed them, I can’t look it up for you.

I’ve asked this question for my daughter and her high school counselor said it does count.

Any idea how many hours is decent for an application?

Thanks for the speedy replies!

For UCSD, 200+ hours get 300 points. 100-199 hours get 150 points. See the following link. It’s old information but it gives you an idea of what’s considered.
