What is a good amount of volunteer hours?

It does not matter.

In order to be a competitive applicant to selective colleges and universities, you need to be doing something in addition to studying with your time out of class. But it doesn’t matter very much what you do. It could be sports, or music, or debate, or community service, or theatre, or working for pay, or countless other things.

To be truly competitive, you should be able to identify some kind of personal growth or increase in skills or gain in responsibility and maturity that has resulted from your extracurricular activities. But unless you’re extraordinarily good at what you do (e.g., good enough to be on a college basketball or track team), it just doesn’t matter much at all what those activities are.

Thank you very much. That defininety shed some more light on the subject.
