Hello I was wondering if the amount of volunteer hours I have is good. I have been volunteering at the University medical center in Mississippi for about 1.5 years. I have racked up 450+ hours by this point and I will have many more by the time I apply to colleges. I’m not volunteering just for the hours, I want to go into premed so it’s been helpful. Do you know if these hours are impressive??
The number of hours is much less important than what is accomplished.
Let’s see, my D volunteered 12 hours a week at a hospital year round for two years and 4 hours for two years before that. So that would be approx 1600 hours total. She has been in college for awhile now and until your post I (we) had never done the math on the number of hours she volunteered. Whatever you do can always be overshadowed by someone else; there is always someone richer as they say. Better to do exactly what @sherpa said. Hours don’t matter, for the undergrad app anyway.
