How important is volunteer work in the college admissions process. I havent done much and will be applying in a year. I do well in school and i'll be applying to a variety of places ranging from a state university like UVA and VCU to maybe a reach in an ivy league college or two. I worked for pay during the summer and am swamped with school during the year so adding the volunteer work would be a bit much but is it worth it?

people say the minimum is 200 hours, but colleges now know this and pretty much all volunteer work is pretty much pointless unless you really enjoy it… especially since you have a job. But for the universities you stated, i am unsure, since i am only informed on like ivies and such. For state though, i guess they would still like to see some volunteer hours like if you are able to do some. But if you are not able to do over 100 hours or it would be a great hindrance to your other plans, i would not bother.
