Volunteer work?

I'm currently an UG freshman, but I'm already considering grad school/MBA. How important is volunteer work/community service when applying to grad schools/MBA programs? How is volunteering viewed in graduate admissions in comparison to its weight in undergraduate admissions?

I did a lot of volunteer work in high school, but I'm hoping to allot my time better for college.

They don’t care. Graduate programs care about your achievements in your particular field. MBA programs care about your professional success (most MBA programs strongly recommend a few years of work experience before applying).

That being said, interesting volunteer positions might get you experience that will make you a stronger job applicant if you end up not going to graduate school. But if you can get paid positions that will teach you new skills, even better!

Agree with b@r!um. Schools do not care, but some employers might.
