Volunteer work...

I have a problem. I haven't done any volunteer work and that will work against me. I'm looking to go to UC Berkeley or UCLA. I've heard that for the UC's all you have to do is 100 hours and they won't count any more after that. I heard that they have a point system and 100 hours will give you the points for the volunteer work criteria or whatever. If this is true I will probably try to stuff in as many hours as I can before college apps are due. I am going to be a senior soon. Will UC's look at this suspiciously or if you have the hours it won't matter? I know private schools will see this negatively but what about UC's? Will doing 100 hours just before apps a god idea?

virtuoso...i recomment not doing that because it would look very obvious and i think maybe even used against you, try to excel in the activities you've been doing because if you're a rising senior which im guessing you are it is foolish to squeeze in that many hours

from what i've heard the uc's like to see that you've been volunteering over a long period of time ( continuity) rather than an absurd amount squeezed in to a few weeks

Yeah, it will be a waste of 100 hours. You are better off doing well whatever ECs you already have going on. By the way, not having community service record is not such a big deal. Relax.

On the UC application on the volunteer section, there is no part where it asks you for total hours. You just fill in the date you started and finished and the hours per week/month. How would the UCs know that you volunteered every so hours from the date periods unless you include that in an essay?
