How significant is it on college applications? I tutor kids and I love doing it..I have no idea how many hours I have right now though.

Do you need like over 200 hours for them to take it seriously?

There's not a space on apps for "Enter total number of volunteer hours here." If you love tutoring kids and it's a significant EC, then write about it in your essay. Even if you have a more significant EC that you're planning on writing about, still enter it in your list of ECs if it's that meaningful to you. I wouldn't worry about the hours. Colleges love to see that you give back to your community.

For a lot of college applications that I filled out, I had to write down how many hours approximately a week for which I volunteered or did another activity and how many weeks a year. If tutoring is really important to you, list it as an EC and perhaps write about it in your essay.

I think that volunteer work is important as long as your interest comes across as genuine and sincere. You have to actually care and not just put down b/c you think that it'll look good.
