I was looking at volunteering abroad over winter break and looked at kayavolunteer.com. They have some really cool places where you can volunteer. I'm really interested in the medical trips they do. They seem legitimate and safe, but I was wondering if anyone has volunteered through them before and how was your experience? I can't seem to find a review other than the ones on their webpage. I would appreciate any feedback! Thank you! (:

Never heard of them, so I can’t offer any advice there. But I will advise against doing this if you’re just doing it for your med school resume. Programs like that aren’t very impressive to adcoms because they’re genearlly only available to people who can afford them. If you have a strong interest in international medicine/volunteerism, then by all means go for it, but for personal enrichment only.
As for the company - can you not find a group going from your undergrad school or something similar? That would be the best way to go.

@Icarus Thanks so much for your reply. I really appreciate it. And no, I wasn’t planning to use this just for my med school resume (but I totally understand why you would think that). Through my school, we had some study abroad options over the winter break but none of them were medically related, which I would love to be able to experience. I currently volunteer at a pretty big hospital and I want the other aspect of healthcare where there are people who can’t afford to go to the hospital and there is only one doctor in the village. This is definitely for personal enrichment, but I guess it’s a plus for my medical futures also. Thanks again for the reply!
