I intend to major in either political science or oceanography at the Naval Academy. I already have the papers ready to volunteer at the local hospital next summer, but I think the academy would like me volunteering somewhere that looks good for my intended majors. Any help on the political science part of that (where to volunteer, jobs relating to political science, etc.), because I don’t have anything around me for oceanography (live in the mountains). Thanks!
Well for poli sci, I know that local politicians usually want teens to volunteer and campaign. If there aren’t already teen groups, reach out to some and they will be more than happy that you want to help.
Not volunteering but you can consider joining MUN or debate team.
Paid jobs might be harder to find. I know some of our local politicians have paid events if you campaign. If you are thinking about law, then some firms also hire teens.
Contact any of the political offices in your area – now is the time.
Don’t worry too much about it though - colleges are aware that huge numbers of applicants end up majoring in something different than their intended major.
Local political offices are generally always willing to take (unpaid) volunteers if you are interested in that.
Don’t feel so compelled to be so rigid. My main EC was as a dishwasher at a restaurant.
How many “pre-Oceanography” ECs do you think are available to any HS student? Do something- anything constructive and you’ll be fine.
