Volunteering in Middle School...

Hi...
Im in 8th grade but i dont quite know where to volunteer... some people already gave me a few ideas such as the public library.. but when I called them they wont accept me :P

IDEAS PLEASE! ^^

Try to see if there are places to volunteer that match your interests. If you like animals, ask the Humane Society. If you're into sports, see if there are any sports camps or after-school programs for kids in your area. The United Way website has a lot of great suggestions and resources by zip code.

Humane Society, local hospital, library .. search "volunteering in (my town)" on google to see what comes up

CHURCHES take kids of all ages

try to think of things you're interested in and want to stick with for 4 years, you'll thank yourself when you're doing your EC section of college applications.
most local hospitals let younger people do something, or a church, etc.

and races.

If there's a countywide or citywide volunteer office, call them. In my area, Teen Court is a popular place for middle schoolers to volunteer. They get to be jurors assessing punishments for teens who admitted to commiting crimes. Call your guidance counselor and ask. Someone is probably there over the summer who can give you suggestions.

Enough Volunteer Topics Please...

I don't think you really needed to open a new thread for this.

But try a hospital or a different library, one not too far.

Definitely find something that you are interested in and can continue throughout high school. It'll be a lot easier to write about when you apply for colleges and scholarships. Plus if you stick with it for a few years it demonstrates commitment and responsibility (for colleges and scholarships). If you're looking for opportunities, try checking out this site (VolunteerMatch.com): http://www.volunteermatch.org/.

does volunteering in middle school even counts when u apply for college?

vanessama -

Well if he is going to the 8th grade this year and going to only do it for 1 year, most probably not. If he does it for the rest of his high school career then its 5 years total which would obviously show some passion for X activity.
