Volunteering the right choice?

I'm starting my sophomore year in the fall and plan to start some clinical volunteering. I already volunteer for the hospital visiting patients in a non-clinical setting; I love that and since it's only 3 hours a week I have no intention to stop it. However, that + clinical volunteering + 16 credit hours means I am not planning on starting any research as I don't think I'll have enough time to devote to it. Is that going to be a problem down the line?

I have considered whether I should do volunteering or research, and in the end decided I would enjoy the volunteering more, and it would help finalize my decision to be a doctor.

If you enjoy volunteering, you must like the clinical aspect of being a doctor more. In that case, BDM or BRM can correct me if I'm wrong, then doing research won't matter as much if you apply to your state schools. But don't expect to get into the top 10 research schools.
