Volunteering

So I have done 182 hours of volunteering this year, and something occurred to me today - will colleges want verification of this? It was never at the same place, so just giving them a name wouldn't work. I would really hate for this to be a waste...

I would really hate for this to be a waste…

Really?

I don’t think you’ll have to verify every, single time you volunteered.

Right, because your experience and the impact you’ve made is completely worthless.

Maybe if you only volunteer for the sake of putting it on your application, it is a waste in and of itself.

It was never at the same place? You mean, you don’t volunteer at a single organization consistently? Shame on you.

Volunteer work isn’t a waste. I enjoy every minute of time I spend at the camps I volunteer at. It makes a difference. Something that makes a difference can’t be a waste.

I would have recommended volunteering at one (2 max) place consistently, but what’s done is done. At any rate, you should be fine. Should they ask for verification (which I really doubt they will), just ask your supervisor to vouch for you.

Also, in regards to all the people here arguing about whether or not it was a waste: you don’t even know what this person did, or if they liked doing it. Maybe they just weren’t lucky enough to find a position they found interesting and were forced to volunteer somewhere boring and meaningless just to match other people’s credentials. You shouldn’t be too quick to judge him/her.
