volunteering

does having a job outweigh volunteering on a college application or vice versa?

and IF it's volunteering, do colleges care where you volunteered ? Or do you need to have volunteered at like a hospital in contrast to a library ?

They’re looked at as equal, with having a job being more attractive if anything (though it’s admittedly circumstantial).

They don’t care in particular, as they know that volunteering at a hospital is most likely sorting things like paper work or doing very basic menial tasks while volunteering at a library is much the same, plus sorting books. As long as you show dedication to what you do, it shouldn’t really matter.
