Ahh.
I'm freaking out right now. I can't find a single place I can volunteer at. Sure.. the pet shelter..but if you are under 18 you have to have a parent with you!
Local hospital: it's all filled(? yeah i know.. right? it's volunteering.. how can it be filled up already)
Library offers no volunteering.
Haven't tried the senior center.
sigh Its too hard finding community service stuff to do around here.
By the way, does anyone know how one can volunteer at an elementary school to teach after-school type of programs...?
Thankyou.

Why do you want to volunteer? Are you interested in a particular type of volunteering, or do you want to help a specific cause?

A good thing to check out if you haven't is summer camps. I've volunteered at the same camp every summer.

yeah...try a nursing home. I had similar luck, i was like WHAT YOU DONT WANT FREE LABOR...?!?!?! hah. all caps for emphasis, not that i'm a jerk

How about a museum?

Or, if you're interested in helping out at the elementary school, maybe you could speak to the principal about tutoring. Also, many elementary schools have after school programs for kids to stay because their parents have to work......perhaps you could offer your services there?

Do you have a hospital near you? Lots of people from my school volunteer at the hospital near us. I just filled out a volunteer application online a few days ago.

I volunteer at a local Pediatric office. Maybe you could also try a local doctors office?

Also, try the YMCA if you have one close by.

Try a summer camp. My high school is in the same building as the elementary and middle school, and so the summer camp recruits from the high school. We get the option of being paid or getting service credit hours.

Just out of interest, does your school have a min. of service cred needed for graduation?

1 Sky Pilot: Yeah.. I was wondering if I could do that at a local elementary school and tutor kids in Math or Computers( lol..if they are interested). Do you think it would be weird to offer tutoring in my neighborhood?
rockandrolltime: I go to an extremely small private high school (10 ppl in my class).. so no our school has no such things. lol
sak09. YMCA offers no volunteering.
Thanks for the advice everyone!

Yeah, I went through the same exact thing a week ago. I was really freaking out! But now I found a volunteer position at a library and am filling one out for a hospital at the moment. I seriously called 20+ hospitals and only one of them was still accepting applications...but they only had 2 positions left! And I just gave in applications to a children's museum and a senior center today. I also think that the tutoring at elementary schools is a good idea! So keep trying, I'm sure you'll find something!
