I was just wondering, does a high amount of volunteer hours (ex 500+) actually make a whole lot of difference in admission? Not just for Harvard, but for the other Ivy Leagues too. Thanks :)

is it something you are passionate about? or is is it something you did simply to impress colleges?

I don't know how much it matters for admissions, but most of my friends were very involved in terms of volunteer work before college and continue that trend here.

No, I actually volunteered for about 300 hours at the YMCA and totally loved it. Then, as I want to go into the field of medicine, I volunteered for about 300 hours at the major hospital in my city, just to explore the field and see what working there feels like. I'm really passionate about volunteering at the hospital; I mean I've already gotten 300 hours and it feels like I just started yesterday. I'm still volunteering there, actually, and probably will continue well after I apply to colleges.
