(In) Decision 2006
Where should I go to college?
Tufts
Vanderbilt
WashU in St. Louis

I want:
-to study English, foreign languages
-small or avg class size
-a fun school but not one dominated by Greeks
-a pretty campus
-friendly people
-a variety of majors among my peers

I am:
-from the NY area
-in love with country music

Id say vanderbilt but that school has a very large Greek scene.

About Vandy:

Only about 35% of men are in frats at Vandy and around 50% of the women. Also, only the top six officers of a house actually live in the house, so there isn't a bifurcation between independents and greeks. So, you get all the perks of a moderate Greek presence without the split.

The average class size is 19 with 78% under 25, which, I think, is very comparable to WUSTL.

Our campus is a national arboretum and is one of the most beautiful (if not the most) in the country.

You'll just have to take my word that very nearly everyone here is unbelievably friendly.

I'll list the majors of people just on my side of the hall to give you a little sampling of the variety:
Economics and Biology
Human and Organizational Development and Spanish
Biology and Spanish
Electrical Engineering
Elementary Education and Child Studies
Mechanical Engineering
Sociology
Chemistry

I have a few friends here from Long Island and, if I may speak for them, it doesn't seem like they could be any happier. We had a record number of students from the NE in the class of 09 and I'm sure it will increase even more with class of 10.

Country music: now, do I really have to explain this one?

To sum it up...come to Vanderbilt!

greek life does not dominate vanderbilt's campus at all. either way, college is what you make of it.

Go to WashU or Vandy

Since you love country music, I'd go with Vanderbilt. It's Nashville, the country music capital, which is also a very neat city. You would have a plethora of opportunities at your disposal.

Vandy (10 characters)

i seem to be the only one that thinks Tufts fits you best

WashU or Vandy are both amazing choices for you.

Tufts has an awesome program in language and linguistics if i'm not mistaken. I'm just not the biggest fan of the boston area, at this point of my life atleast. I really like everything i've heard about Vandy, and in the end it depends on where you want to settle. Although Vanderbilt is an awesome school, its degree recognition is a lot higher in the south than in the north. If you like country, then Nashville would be an amazing setting and you'd enjoy your undergrad years while getting an amazing and very respectable education.

I say Vanderbilt. Nashville = Country Music heaven! LOL Besides, Vanderbilt has an excellent English department.

considering the fact that you even mentioned that you love country music, I think your heart is set on Vanderbilt

but, I don't know enough about those schools and I don't like making assumptions
