Hi all, I was wondering if i should file for an absentee ballot before i leave or if NY state law allows for me to vote there?

whatever you do, vote for obama

Definitely search what the procedure is in your home state to obtain an absentee ballot so that you can vote in the presidential election in Nov. Typically, there is a simple application that has to be sent in by a certain date. In my state, the deadline is late Sept or early October. But do not wait that long. Just do it right now while you are thinking about it and then the absentee ballot will be sent to you at college.

This is really important. Please spread the word.

to register to vot e you need to establish residency - and prove it - generally yu will be better off absentee voting…

Ignore lopo and their kool-aid addiction.

Here you go:

Just to be clear, you can only vote in NY if you are a resident of that state. You are entitled to a NY absentee ballot if you will be too far away from your NY home at election time to vote in your neighborhood. If not a NY state resident, then go online and get the absentee application from your home state.

Ooops i just assumed that you are NY state resident and therefore provided the link to NY state absentee ballot application. If not from NY state then do as odyssey mentioned.

Can you prove residency by putting your Cornell address ?

I seem to recall that you could register in NY at the beginning of the school year if you were a student and hadn’t already registered in your home state. I’m pretty sure RPCC is actually a voting place come Election Day. Chances are, your home state is more of a battleground than New York, so I would register there. Sooner is always better: I requested an absentee ballot in September for a February primary.

I’m a NY resident and I’m already registered in NY and voted in the primary. I know I can do an absentee ballot but I had a kind of unfortunate experience with the machines and I kind of want to vote on the machines this time to prove to myself (and all my friends who still make fun of me for it) that I’m actually capable of doing it. Is it possible for me to vote in Ithaca?

You can only vote in person at the designated polling place that is printed on your voter registration. Voting elsewhere is actually considered election fraud.

I swear that this is why youths vote in such low numbers in November…everyone is away at school and many are in different states. Kids are lazy or don’t know how to get absentee ballots and it really is bad for the democracy. They NEED to spread the word as much as possible about how/when people can get absentee ballots. I kno how but I’m a political junkie…I’m guessing 50% of people my age have no idea.

If you combine people who have no idea with people who don’t give a crap, then it might be closer to 80%… sadly
