Hi everyone! I got into VPA (which was my second choice college) instead of Newhouse. What classes should I take so I have a really good chance in successfully transferring to Newhouse? Any recommendations on professors? I want to take classes that will work towards my goal of graduating with a Broadcast major, rather than Communications and Rhetorical Studies.

Any other advice into making this transfer?

Now is a little too early to search for classes along with professors. Once the official class catalogue for Fall 2011 (not sure if it’s released yet) along with the designated professors, do a quick ratemyprofessors.com search. You’ll be able to search for classes/professors into the late summer via Myslice (the online student portal). Also, for the first couple of weeks into the school year, you’ll be able to add/drop classes. This allows you to “sample” classes. But, be warned, I did this a little too much and missed 2 weeks worth of classwork. I’d suggest taking an easy 101 language. With other subjects, it’s very hard to say since difficulty ranges by each professor. To transfer into Newhouse, it’s recommended to have at least a 3.6/3.7 GPA freshman year.

Hey iceskater93, did you submit a portfolio for VPA (Your 2nd choice)? Or is a portfolio not needed if it’s not your first choice school?

I didn’t submit a portfolio at all. I think if you go into another part of VPA (something other than communications), you’ll need a portfolio though.
