So as May 1st approaches, I’m trying to make my final decisions as to where to go to college to start this off, I’m going to throw out there that I fully and completely understand there should be and is far more than just rankings/prestige going into making my final decision, I just want to get this aspect from an objective view point. That being said, is the Villanova school of Business or the Robert Smith school of business ranked higher? Which one is considered to be more prestigious? Which one has a higher rate of students getting jobs for their major? Any and all input is greatly appreciated, thank you so much!
I think that VSB is ranked slightly higher in most polls (and they were ranked #1 by Bloomberg this year, despite being further back in other polls). But what major are you focused on and would you receive in state tuition at UMD?
I would consider the two to be peer institutions. Consider if you prefer one environment over the other, if there is a meaningful price differential etc. They are both fine schools so you can’t make a bad decision.
In terms of getting jobs, that likely would depend on many factors including but not limited to the applicant’s major, GPA, internships, activities on campus, ability to interview well.
FWIW I put no stock in the Bloomberg ranking – the rankings (and the methodology utilized to get the ranking) were so off that Bloomberg has publicly stated that they will no longer rank undergraduate b-schools.
@experiment626 I love your username ! as of right now I am planning on majoring in finance, and yes I would receive in state tuition at UMD as well as the bannermen/key scholarship I received. Nova hasn’t updated me with financial aid or scholarships quite yet @happy1 In all honesty I like the environments the same- I never had a preference of size so I feel like the situation is a complete draw / and I completely agree! It’s difficult to take the bloomberg ranking seriously when Wharton was placed at #16! Now THAT’S absurd! :))
Unless Villanova gives you significant aid or your family is very wealthy and cost of college does not matter to them , UMD seems to be your best bet.
