My parent's don't get W-2 forms because they're self-employed (they have the Schedule C) but all my colleges are requesting that I submit that in. Should I ignore the request?

Also they want my 2010 IRS 1040 Tax Return; however I did not file it (b/c i have no job).. do i have to be concern about it because it is noted as "missing" for my financial aid record..

Make sure you send the schedule C with the tax returns. Obviously, there are no W2’s. The school will waive them.

Look on your school’s website for a student non tax filer form. Some schools incorporate that with their verification worksheet … they let you check “student non filer” and enter income (put 0 if you didn’t earn any).

If it doesn’t seem obvious enough that your parents are self-employed and therefore don’t have W-2 forms, email the schools’ financial aid offices to let them know.

The schools might have a form called “Statement for Student Nonfilers” or something like that. Basically, it’s a form on which the student indicates that he or she was not required to file taxes for 2010 and indicates any income (in case you made money but not enough to need to file).
