W for Disaster

LONG story short: I attended the U for one semester. Due to financial issues, I transfered to a community college for Spring '12 semester. I called the Dean's office to officially "un-enroll", and they said I didn't have to do anything. To play safe, I sent an email (thank god) and notified my dorm.

Fast forward to the end of Spring '12. I get a bill from the U for that semester. After months of emails and phone calls back and forth, my bill is appealed and I am charged nothing. The administration acknowledge that it was their fault.

I just applied to transfer to some top UCs. I was double checking my U's transcript (that I was FINALLY granted access to) and there is a W! For Spring '12 semester- the semester that administration failed to drop and never charged me for. I never paid for that W! I don't want it!

Worse yet, I didn't mention it on my apps (I didn't know it existed). I've contacted the U's Dean of Admissions, English Department (it's an english class), and the registrar's office. No use. Everyone is useless.

What should I do? In the UC App Update, can I add that there was an administrative error and I received a W on my transcript, but am working on sorting it out? Should I add the U and the class and the grade or just mention it in additional comments?

I just want to be over this issue once and for all!

Thanks for reading my sob story!

The W will not hurt your admission whatsoever(I have 3 right now), by not mentioning it might. I would explain the situation on the update and call the # and email the UC app provides. I emailed them and got a response the next day.

I don’t think you can add colleges/classes from prior to Fall 2012 on the Transfer Academic Update. You will need to contact the UC Application Center to update the information. It’s fine to say that it is an administrative error and you are in the process of getting it fixed and that you didn’t know the W was there until you were granted access to your transcript (provide date you were granted access).

Thanks for your help! I called each UC and they told me to just mention it in the Additional Comments. Trying to get concrete proof that they said this now.

Yeah, that should be fine. I was hesitant to just advise you to mention it on the TAU because it’s always better to have a paper trail. But if the UC campuses are telling you it’s ok, then go for it.
