W&L for Business

My S was accepted to W&L, but is also considering Bucknell and Lehigh. Can anyone speak to the quality of the business school, and the potential for internships and high quality jobs in the Northeast (New York, specifically)? Lehigh is very well connected to Wall Street and NYC accounting firms. I believe Bucknell is as well, but don’t know much about W&L. Since it is less than half the size of the other two schools, I wonder about the relatively small number of active alumni and where they are physically located for networking. Do most settle in the South, or the DC area?

The business school (actually called the Williams School) is very well thought of. There are several clubs (Williams Investment Society, Venture Club, Consulting Club, probably more) that are real resume builders. Many, many students get internships and jobs on Wall Street. Alumni are also well connected on Wall Street. Lehigh and Bucknell are great schools in their own right, but if your S is interested in business, W&L is a great place to go to college.

To expand on the good points made by @Xwords59:

Note that the student-managed portion of W&L’s endowment is over $5 million.

There is also an entrepreneurship program:

The Williams School sponsors numerous trips, both fall and spring, for students interested in investment, advertising, and marketing.

D has business major friends whose W&L-coordinated internships the summer after their junior year led to job offers in NYC, Minneapolis, Austin, Charlotte, San Francisco, and DC – that’s just off the top of my head among her friend group. I’ve been amazed at the willingness of W&L alumni to bend over backwards to help new grads.

Here’s W&L Career Development’s report on the Class of 2014. Look especially at the last two pages noting their employers, grad schools, and fellowships.
