Now it’s gone…LOL
Also, looks like there are about 200 finalists…does anyone know how many scholarships are typically awarded?
Most years there are about 40 entering Johnson scholars, roughly ten percent of the class
Can hardly wait until 8. D’s 83 yo grandfather, from Lynchburg, would be over the moon if d goes to w&l. Not likely won’t the Johnson.
Anyone know the number of students that apply for Johnson?
@RFM1617 Not yet! Only a few minutes until release though I think
Its out!
Well, I didn’t get it. But congrats to anyone who did.
@gilbogabbins123 the announcement said 3,400.
Did not get it. Congrats to anyone who did!
I GOT IT!
Anyone know the odds of selection for those taken down to the school?
@MetonHopeful2023 about 200/3400 so just under 6%
Yikes, didn’t get it. But congrats to anyone who did. Hopefully I still get in and all ?
@NodakWonder Where’s the announcement at? Would you mind sending a link? thanks!
Also, I am so incredibly thankful for W&L for selecting me as a finalist. This scholarship would provide the opportunity I need to attend the school, so I am grateful for this chance! And, even if I don’t receive the scholarship, I can at least visit Virginia, which I have never done before!
Still awaiting decisions from some other schools, but W&L is a contender now because I feel wanted by them.
Last year there were about 2700 applicants for the Johnson, and 175 were invited to compete for the scholarship. They awarded 49 Johnsons. I have that directly from W&L.
@David5700044 Congrats! Please let us know how everything goes. I’m interested in applying next year. Do you know if there is anything in particular that they look for? And how do they pick the recipients from the 200+ invited to the weekend?
@britain Thanks, I will try to keep the cc community updated. I’m not entirely sure what they look for; I would imagine strong educational background (intrinsic motivation to learn) and unique, robust leadership and service passions. I would check out the W&L Johnson Scholarship FAQ it more adequately addresses your questions.
Best,
David
From the W&L website:
“Washington and Lee is a university that is interested in students’ background and accomplishments as well as in their character and goals. The Johnson program is meant to recognize students with outstanding intellectual and leadership potential. W&L seeks to be personal in all things - beginning with the admission and scholarship selection processes, all the way through each student’s four years in Lexington - and we believe that meeting the candidates and spending time with them are valuable tools in selecting the students for whom the scholarship is intended.”
Character counts, and one should be sure to understand the importance of honor at W&L in general.
